Week 9

Images of individual parts(from the main parts to little parts like screws)

Completing every parts from the main parts to the little ones like screws and some L plates and holders to reproduce the bucket as close as i can to make i look realistic.

Real image from the site visit:

Rendered image from 3ds Max:

This are images of the fully completed bucket with texture on it on 3ds max. Providing the whole bucket and some close up view showing every corner of the bucket. And using two different textures, old rusty bucket and the normal painted painted.

Checking the scale when exported to crysis:

This is a trial image of the bucket exported into crysis with the person beside it. Although i modeled the bucket to scale on inventor, it turned out really big when exported to crysis. Maybe because its been exported from three different computer programs (from inventor to 3ds Max and then to crysis).
To solve this problem i had to scale the bucket to make it true to size.

Week 11

Exporting to crysis and fixing material

When i added the additional parts on the bucket i couldn't export it anymore, it was saying that there were degenerate faces. To find out which of the parts was making this problem i had to export them one by one until i got to the part which is causing the problem, i had to convert that part to editable poly and delete those faces to be able to export it.
The export was successful but as my earlier problem the material wasn't showing correctly, it was because i didn't put the materials correctly. This was fixed by using the material option and changing it to crytek shader and making a .mtl file for the bucket material to appear properly on crysis. Also changing the uvw mapping to make the texture to scale and realistic.

making broken buckets

I started doing broken buckets as well, using 3ds max and inventor. Putting dents on the bucket, breaking the other parts, bending the holder, etc. After making the broken bucket i exported them to crysis and added material. i then put it to the environment and added some grass and leaves to help in the crysis environment.

Week 13

Link to Final CryENGINE Install

Please note! This is the final CryENGINE install, which contain our 3 Levels. Simply extract and copy to "Program Files" in your C Drive. The three levels refer to "AerialRopeway", "AerialRopewayAnimation" and AerialRopewayExhibition". You can simply open these levels from the "File" menu and "Open" command in the Sandbox. If you have extracted and placed the install in the correct location the shortcut to the Sandbox provide should work.

One problem that i had is making the chronolapse screenshot into a timelapse video. I fixed all the settings where to get the images from and where the video will go but the video isn't working. I even asked a friend to do it for me but for some reason it wasn't working as well even tho his one worked perfectly fine. I tried googling some causes for this problem but wasn't lucky enough to find a solution.
Here is a link where i put my images as a zip for my process images:

animation inventor assembly
I made this animation after the group presentation using inventor. Which we showed on the client presentation in Katoomba. Which i think was a success cos the clients liked it and said it was really good. Although i don't really know the exact sizes of each part nor how its being manufactured and assembled together i think i kind of got it right how they are assembled together just by looking at the supplied images.
One problem i had with this animation is that the video rendered by inventor was too pixelated, even after changing a few settings and saving it couple of times all videos came out pixelated. I wasn't really able to fix this problem on inventor, so i used another way to save the animation. I recorded the playing animation with my phone and it turned out better than the actual inventor animation.

Group Presentation Reflection - Renumeration

1st presentation
The group that presented did a pretty good presentation. I learned a lot like how the payments depends on the location and what is the difference between working in a company and working as a freelancer. As a freelancer you get all the income, they get the part which the company should be getting but on the other hand being a freelancer is more stressful cos you need to do all the work. Things like looking for a client and all the invoices. You also need a proof of your work hours and send it to the client. one example they gave us was using doctor log when you work. They also showed a graph an interesting graph showing incomes of different occupations.

Overall they did a good presentation giving us some interesting information that was actually important for the future using real life examples to explain the topics better which was really good.

Group Presentation Reflection - Conflict

1st presentation
The first conflict presentation was by my group. Started of with the presentation explaining different types of conflict in different situations. After that we showed a video of those types of conflicts followed by videos on how to avoid or solve them. I think this approach was pretty good cos they understood it more than just listening to the explanation to the meaning of it. We also made the videos in a funny way to catch peoples attention and so we don’t bore them as well which turned out to be effective.
Overall I think we did good but missing some other conflicts that we as a group actually encountered with each member and also conflict with the programs or equipments we are using as well.

2nd presentation

The second group did pretty well on researching about the topic conflict although I couldn’t hear the person presenting properly. As for the video I wasn’t really able to see it as it has been played just on the laptop. But hearing the conversation they were acting and the response from the other audiences I think it was a good video showing conflicts they had in their group.

Week 12

putting buckets all over environment:

After the other members put the boundaries, towers and rope it was finally my turn to put the buckets in. Putting them all through the ropes with a distance approximately 90m apart from each other based on the excel sheet given to us. I used the follow terrain and object, and snaps it to the rope. But because of the earlier issue about the scale of the bucket being really big, i had to rescale them one by one. i also had to rotate them to the way the rope is going.

animation using autokey
The biggest problem i had with this whole project is making the animations work. I did animation on 3ds max on week 9 and now that i tried exporting it the animation doesn't work, the object .cga file and the animation .anm both exported successfully but wasn't working. Even tho on my first trial it worked and was doing exactly the same thing. From 3ds Max exporting it as .fbx file with animation being baked and opening a new max scene to change the position to TCB and then exporting it to crysis. i tried putting it on as geomEntity and putting a flowgraph to it but it wasn't working. i also tried putting it as an animated entity and changing the model to the bucket and animation to the animation being saved with the max file but still wasn't working.
For this reason i had to make a new animation using just autokey for animation rather the "path". This one worked but i lost the tipping part of the bucket and just showed a simple.
There was also a problem with the cryEngine program that is keeps crashing after the animation was there which was the reason why i couldn't edit and make it further more. And i also run out of time as waiting for the other members to finish because we can only work on it one at a time and sharing the file on dropbox took a lot of time syncing as well.

Week 10

trying to make the rope look like its moving:
From the individual milestone i was told to make the rope looks like its moving from the wind and also make the rope follow the position of the bucket to make it look like the bucket is heavy and the rope is being tensioned. Which i actually misunderstood and all i have to do was not to make the bucket look like its tilting.
But before that was cleared here is a video trying to make the rope look like its moving by using Massfx tool and cloth modification on 3ds Max. Just playing around with its settings.

animation tipping bucket

Because i have to wait for the boundaries and the towers to be on the crysis environment before i can put my buckets in i decided to start with the animation. getting the unfinished northern terminal from Roschelle i had to quickly put ropes and the rails in to have a try on animation using the option "path" to make the bucket follow the rope and the carriage follow the rail. The 3ds Max animation was a success showing the bucket moving along the rope and then the bucket tipping what it is carrying and dropping it to the carriage and then the carriage will deliver it further.

putting the towers in max animating moving bucket
Another animation that i had to do was animation of the buckets running through the rope, i tried this by using a captured image given showing where the ropes go and the slope of the land. This became my reference in putting the towers in for my animation.
